@Metaknowledge Probably some special word the Omanis had. In the Ottoman Empire one uses جُمْرُك (jumruk), and even earlier probably one of the words listed at جِبَايَة (jibāya), general words for “tribute”, like today German Abgabe for everything. It can however be related to فَرَضَ (faraḍa, “verhängen, auferlegen”). Less likely ف ر ط (f-r-ṭ) having meanings like “excess”, “overexploitation”. Fay Freak (talk) 11:22, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

@Fay Freak: I found a pdf of Reinhardt's Ein arabischer Dialekt gesprochen in ʿOmān und Zanzibar; I can share it if you're interested. @Metaknowledge: It’s فُرْضَة (furḍa, “crevice, gap; mouth of a body of water, place where one gets to the water”), compare the quote there where it is talked about how wares are stowed, ships are made ready and customs handled after heading to the فُرْضَة (furḍa)! Though as an absolute landsman I have no practical knowledge how customs are handled with ships, I have noticed this right now browsing my edit history and finding this talk page after creating yesterday the entry.
