Etymology

[edit]
"the form of männerfeindlich strongly suggests this is formed as Frauen + feindlich, not Frau + -en- + feindlich"

While that makes more sense and is more correct, linguists might nontheless derive it as "Frau + -en- + feindlich". Cp. canoo: "en   Strahlenbündel" [which rather is Strahlen + Bündel, a bundle of rays (pl.)], and although it's not reliable canoo's analysation of frauenfeindlich. Canoo even has -er- with which it makes up "männerfeindlich = Mann + -er- + feindlich [+ Umlaut]". Maybe both can and should be mentioned, like e.g. "Frauen +‎ feindlich; by linguists sometimes falsely analysed as Frau +‎ -en- +‎ feindlich"? (Is there a similar term like folk etymology but refering to false etymologies made-up by linguists like linguist etymology, non-folk etymology?) -84.161.34.254 01:34, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
