"The chief executive officer of a first-level division of a country." That's not what the word "governor" means. If it were, then a sentence such as "Nicola Sturgeon is the Governor of Scotland" would make sense and be true and correct. (Also, if you look up "chief executive officer" in Wikipedia, the definition is purely related to "business".) I'm thinking of changing this definition to add "In certain jurisdictions". A second problem with the definition is that it doesn't account for governors who act as non-executive heads of state, such as most governors general in British dependent territories. 86.191.247.118 09:41, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Chambers has "real or titular ruler, esp of a state, province or colony; the head of an institution or a member of its ruling body; the commander of a fortress". Equinox 12:24, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
