Hard Man vs Hardball. A "Hard Man" is someone who is unafraid of a fight and/or can take loads of physical punishment and drink, is this term derived from hardball? To be hard, to act hard, is to be physically tough and very resilient, or to appear to be on the surface, similar to a hardball, perhaps?
