Etymology[edit]

Note that the OED actually gives a derivation from "Turkish" but it's obvious the Ottoman variety was/should've been intended, given the age of the earliest uses. This particular spelling now follows modern Turkish orthography but the same transcription is used now for the Ottoman Turkish word which was the actual etymon anyway. — LlywelynII 14:59, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
