Etymology the Word "Liming" (Caribbean Slang)

The word "liming" in the Caribbean is said to come from the British sailors being referred to as "Limeys". While sailing on the ocean for long periods of time, Scurvy- a disease resulting from deficiency in vitamin C- was very prominent. To combat this disease, limes were consumed due to their richness in vitamin C. They were said to gather together to eat limes thus the use of the word "liming" supposedly came about to the local Caribbeans with the meaning of gathering and hanging out with friends.
