The ones I've seen so far in Cambodia have not had recycled car engines, they've all had what appear to multi-purpose engines made by the same companies that make generators, walking tractors, and other machinery common in Southeast Asia. Usually Chinese or Thai companies. I'm pretty sure I saw ones with old car engines in Thailand or Laos though.
I would say the defining feature is the long "tail" which is the propeller shaft jutting out from the engine and used for both power and steering. — hippietrail (talk) 14:19, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
