Andalusian Arabic or North African pronunciation[edit]

What does "probably representing an Andalusian Arabic or North African pronunciation" mean? 173.89.236.187 05:37, 7 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

It means that it comes from Arabic العُود (al-ʕūd), where al-‘ūd is the Modern Standard Arabic pronunciation, but in this case, it was borrowed in Al-Andalus, or Muslim Spain, where the pronunciation in Andalusi Arabic was probably more like /lʕawd/ or /lʕut/. —Stephen (Talk) 06:43, 7 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Missing meaning[edit]

There's another meaning in engineering which isn't listed here. Oxford Reference has it at [1]. AlmostReadytoFly (talk) 15:25, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
