Etymology

Thorne's slang dictionary says: "The word is of obscure origin; it may originate in an Aboriginal word or as a corruption of non compos mentis (meaning ‘not of sound mind’). It is probably unrelated to the synonymous ning-nong." (Doesn't say why, though.) Equinox ◑ 03:16, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
