Latin. One of four kinds of balls mentioned in Latin, filled with feathers, used in some kind of country game, possibly like field hockey. Mentioned in Martial. Fancied to be connected to the origins of golf. Probably attestable with this kind of non-specific definition, but not with the POV definition provided.
