@Lingo Bingo Dingo: That's what the TLFi seems to be saying: I think it cites the OF form as an aside, not as the etymon. Have you checked the Dictionnaire historique de la langue française by Alain Rey? If not, I can do that later (I don't have it at hand right now; probably tomorrow).
