English word? "deaf as a plock"[edit]

Found this in Thomas Hardy: "Lord, what's the good o' my lumpering all the way to church and back again, when I'm as deaf as a plock?" Equinox 13:57, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

A short, low clicking sound? Leasnam (talk) 14:09, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
But why would a clicking sound be deaf? I guessed it might be dialect for a post (deaf as a post). Equinox 14:21, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
