I'm not convinced that this text is a proper example.

• This indicates that the present levels of genetic diversity in P. microdon are not unusually low, although the amount of diversity to be expected in pristine populations of coastal species of elasmobranch remains elusive because all populations investigated to date have suffered some degree of decline

The article takes this usage of "pristine" to illustrate the meaning "related to the genus Pristis." But that doesn't make sense in context. "Populations of coastal species of elasmobranch" already tells us that we're talking about fish like Pristis microdon; further specification would be redundant. More to the point, "pristine populations" is clearly being used in opposition to "populations [that] have suffered...decline." That puts this firmly in Etymology 1 territory; the fact that it is in an article about the Pristis genus is pure coincidence. --Jtle515 (talk) 16:36, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
