Discuss the word rationalism.

Empiricism as a possible antonym?[edit]

By comparing rationalism and empiricism, one can see that there is some attainable difference in definition. And although there are proper antonyms for rationalism, I was wondering if rationalism could qualify as a 'quasi-antonym' to empiricism and vice-versa.

What do others think? Thanks! Eug.galeotti 06:19, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The more the attributes of the concept behind a word, the less meaningful any antonym. What's the antonym of (deprecated template usage) car, anti-car? What is the opposite of (deprecated template usage) Bolshevik, (deprecated template usage) Menshevik or (deprecated template usage) tsarist? But what you suggest might be acceptable. On reflection, I don't think I expressed myself properly, what I was aiming at was more like the "See also" category on pages. As such, I just editted the page for rationalism, adding a "See also" for empiricism, and likewise for the empiricism page, so at least some connection between the two is made.
Hope this agrees with you DCDuring (et al). Eug.galeotti 11:17, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
