Etymology[edit]

The Latin etymology section is incomplete, not explaining what the root(s) of this word are, or where it may have come from. Please add. 173.89.236.187 17:22, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@173.89.236.187: According to the entry for “religiō” on pages 1,605–6 of the Oxford Latin Dictionary (1st ed., 1968–82), this word’s etymology is dubious, but it’s likely that it’s connected with either ligō (I bind) or legō (I gather). What the Latin etymology section currently states is about as exhaustive as you’re likely to get. — I.S.M.E.T.A. 19:56, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
