Slang?[edit]

I'm one of a long line of England-born, England-inhabiting and hence British-English speakers. I've never heard of 'schlubby', so maybe I/we should be grateful to the New York Times for (assuming the cited reference is accurate) inventing it - I mean bringing it to our attention.
