Possible missing noun sense: "a trial" (?)[edit]

This occurs in Chambers 1908: I'm not sure what sort of trial is meant. Presumably nothing judicial. Perhaps a difficulty in life? Equinox 21:01, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
