Might stratum originate with Greek, στρατιᾷ, for army or lined up soldiers, and for the stars, as in the heavenly hosts? See for example this page: http://biblehub.com/greek/4756.htm BobEnyart (talk) 11:01, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
