Pronunciation?[edit]

If the pronunciation is correct, then how come it is so? Why doesn't it rhyme with 'metre', with a stress on 'me'? zigzig20s 16:14, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(Seven years late, but...) in British English, -ometer/-ometre are pronounced /-ˈɒmɪtə/, with heavily reduced vowels in the "meter" part. You also see this in kilometre, milometer, speedometer, barometer and so on. Smurrayinchester (talk) 12:28, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
