Etymology of Tagalog[edit]

The regular Tagalog reflex of PMP schwa is i or u, as demonstrated by the following examples: tikin < PMP *təkən, cognate of Malay tekan and pigis < PMP *pəʀəs, cognate of Malay peras. The initial a in tapat suggests that this word is possibly borrowed from Malay, cf. sarap < sedap, kalis < keris, labong < rebung. Wiktionarian89 (talk) 02:15, 15 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
