This Wiktionary definition seems way too focused on illegal acts and acts specifically against prisoners.
Torture is the infliction of pain and suffering, with a view to coercing the recipient to reveal information or otherwise do things aginst their will. It is not limited to illegal acts, nor to governments. The acts are not necessarily well defined. I could torture my cat if I were so inclined, by pulling it's tail.
- I agree. Would you please take a stab at fixing it? (Example sentence for verb is also for the noun use, not the verb.) --Connel MacKenzie T C 00:23, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- I agree as well. The current definition does not agree with common usage or any other dictionary I know. --Stephan Schulz 18:31, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
