[edit]A variant of a Lithuanian-language root, -telš- or -tilž-, related to water. Compare with Tilžė (“Sovetsk, a town in Kaliningrad, Russia”) and Talsai (“Talsi, a city in Latvia”). Related to Samogitian telkšoti (“to be flooded with water, to splash”) and Samogitian Telšē.
