1690, [John] Dryden, Amphitryon; or, The Two Sosia’s. [], London: [] J[acob] Tonson, []; and M. Tonson [], published 1691, →OCLC, (please specify the page):

Usage[edit]

This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from John Dryden's work Amphitryon (1691); the 1st edition (London: [] F. Tonson [] and H. Tonson, 1690; →OCLC) is not currently available online. The template may be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.

Parameters[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |chapter= – if quoting from either the prologue or epilogue, specify |chapter=Prologue or |act=Epilogue. As the prologue is not paginated, use |1= or |page= to specify the "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL is https://archive.org/details/amphitryonortwos00dryd/page/n12/mode/1up, specify |page=12. (The epilogue is also not paginated, but the template can determine the URL.)
  • |1= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last page numbers of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
    • You must also use |pageref= to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number (I–V) quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
  • |act=mandatory in some cases: in most cases if the page number is specified, the template will determine the the act number quoted from. It is unable to do so if page 11, 22, or 48 is specified, in which case the act number must be manually specified in uppercase Roman numerals, like this: |act=I.
Act I
pages 1–11
Act II
pages 11–22
Act III
pages 22–35
Act IV
page 36–48
Act V
pages 48–57
  • |scene= – the scene number, if any, in lowercase Roman numerals.
  • |2=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
