Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

• |1= or |leaf=; |2= or |side= – respectively, the leaf number and side of the leaf (r recto or v verso), which collectively make a page number to be quoted from.

If these parameters are omitted, the template will not link to the online version of the work. If only one is added, a URL will be created but it will lead to an error page.

• |leaf2=; |side2= – for quoting multiple pages; see leaf and side for details. The automatically-generated URL will only take the first page into account.
• |line= or |lines= – the line number quoted from.
• |3=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage quoted.
• |4=, |tr=, or |transliteration= – the passage quoted with the forms used in entries (i.e., wynn (ƿ) replaced with w, spacing of words, expanded scribal abbreviations, transliteration of insular script, etc.)
• |5=, |t=, or |translation= – a translation of the passage.
• |6=, |footer= – a comment about the passage quoted.
• |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
• |termlang= – by default, the template categorizes entries on which it is placed into Category:Old English terms with quotations. To have the template categorize an entry into Category:English terms with quotations instead, use |termlang=en.
