Usage[edit]

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote D. H. Lawrence's work Phoenix: The Posthumous Papers of D. H. Lawrence (1st edition, 1936). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.

Parameters[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1= or |chapter= – the name of the chapter quoted from.
  • |2= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
    • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
You must specify this information to have the template create an automatic link to the online version of the work.
  • |url= or |pageurl= – the template may not always link to the correct page of the online version of the work due to repeated pages. If this happens, use this parameter to manually specify the URL to link to (see the example below).
  • |3=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.

Examples[edit]

  • Wikitext:
    • {{RQ:Lawrence Phoenix|chapter=[Autobiographical Fragment]|page=836|passage=It is true. I am like a '''butterfly''', and I shall only live a little while.}}; or
    • {{RQ:Lawrence Phoenix|[Autobiographical Fragment]|836|It is true. I am like a '''butterfly''', and I shall only live a little while.}}
  • Result:
When the URL needs to be manually specified
  • Wikitext: {{RQ:Lawrence Phoenix|chapter=Adolf|page=9|url=https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.77133/page/n39/mode/1up|passage=Opening the scullery door, I heard a slight scuffle. Then I saw '''dabbles''' of milk all over the floor and tiny rabbit-droppings in the saucers. And there the miscreant, the tips of his ears showing behind a pair of boots. I peeped at him. He said bright-eyed and askance, twitching his nose and looking at me while not looking at me.}}
