Usage[edit]

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote non-English editions of the Harry Potter series of books by J. K. Rowling. As these works are not yet available online, the template does not create external links.

Parameters[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1= or |lang=mandatory: a language code indicating the language of the work quoted from. At present, the template accepts the following language codes:
Language code Language Language code Language
la Latin pt-BR Brazilian Portuguese
For help with adding other works to this template, leave a message on the talk page or at "Wiktionary:Grease pit".
  • |2= or |book=mandatory: the book number in the series in Arabic numerals, as follows:
Book number English title

2 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
3 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
4 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
5 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

  • |3= or |chapter= – the name of the chapter quoted from.
  • |trans-chapter= – a translation of the chapter name quoted from into English.
  • |4= or |page=, or |pages= – the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=110–111.
  • |5=, |text=, or |passage= – a passage to be quoted from the work.
  • |6=, |t=, or |translation= – a translation of the passage quoted into English.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
