The name of the template is probably badly chosen, as is its display. But I could not think of anything that would work better. -- Prince Kassad 14:53, 22 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Displaying East Germany might make the entry more comprehensible. At least for Americans.—msh210 (talk) 16:03, 22 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Was the country, even when it existed, ever referred to as 'democratic' in non-official settings? It seems to me that the name 'East Germany' was much more commonly used, though that's from second-hand experience and not hard facts. —CodeCat 16:09, 22 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
"DDR" was most commonly used in West Germany to refer to the other German state. "Ostdeutschland" (which is the translation of East Germany) in present times refers to the present-day areas of Germany which formerly belonged to the German Democratic Republic. In the times of the Cold War, however, this term referred to the areas of Germany occupied by Poland and the Soviet Union (i. e. Eastern Pomerania, Silesia and East Prussia). -- Prince Kassad 20:47, 22 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've changed the label.—msh210 (talk) 16:06, 30 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
