@Vahagn Petrosyan, I'm confused. Why are you putting links to pages into this reference template that have nothing to do with the reference being cited? --{{victar|talk}} 23:43, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Victar: you don't see Ciancaglini's text when you follow the link? Vahag (talk) 23:47, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vahagn Petrosyan: It's being called with the the alias {{R:syc:ILS}}. --{{victar|talk}} 00:04, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Victar: ILS is a commonly used abbreviation for that book — Iranian Loanwords in Syriac. I'm using {{R:syc:ILS}} as a shortcut for {{R:syc:Ciancaglini}}. The surname is long and difficult to type. What's the problem? Vahag (talk) 12:18, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vahagn Petrosyan: The confusion was clearly mine. I did not realize Ciancaglini came out with two works called "Iranian loanwords in Syriac", one being a preliminary paper in 2006, and the other being this full book in 2008. I think the link text should be made into an |id= parameter, like other similar references, ex. {{R:syc:ILS|plzʾ|233|21613}}. --{{victar|talk}} 05:19, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Victar: That’s true, like in {{R:sux:ePSD}} or (especially) {{R:sem-pro:SED}}—especially with the typing argument: on touchscreens copying and pasting a five-digit number is less daunting than the whole URL which may not fit the screen, and if they move the URLs like CAL did we just have to change the template. Have not thought that far while only using the provided template in a lot of tabs to think about. Fay Freak (talk) 14:55, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Agree, |id= is a good idea but I'm too tired now to code it. Vahag (talk) 15:21, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
