@Ioaxxere: hmmm, interesting. I wonder if it will be distracting? Let's see how it works. — Sgconlaw (talk) 20:32, 27 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Ioaxxere I've started to use this when adding quotes (also created a shortcut: {{q-g}}). it looks nice, but I'm wondering what is the intended extent of its usage. Is it supposed to be inserted every time when there is an alteration compared to the original work? Should we change {{sic}} to use this? Maybe a short description could be added to the documentation. Einstein2 (talk) 12:19, 6 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Einstein2: Well, the main purpose is to create notes with square brackets. As the name suggests, you can use it to gloss (add an explanatory note to) a quote. Previously, these were inserted in plain text which could sometimes make it unclear whether they were part of the original work. {{sic}} is a separate thing so I don't think it needs to be changed. @Ioaxxere If these glosses include every square-bracketed addition that is not present in the original quote (explanations, full forms of abbreviations, spelling/punctuation corrections etc.), I think the square-bracketed templates (e.g. {{...}}, {{nb...}}, {{transterm}}, {{sic}}) may also need to be modified to have a similar design in order to avoid ambiguity. (E.g. if a quote contains both {{q-g}} and {{...}}, the different font color wrongly suggests that the ellipsis is part of the original text.) This is probably not an urgent issue now, but could be considered if the template will be used in a large number of entries. Einstein2 (talk) 18:05, 6 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
