Translingual[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Ancient Greek τρίδακνον (trídaknon, large oyster), traditionally derived by Pliny from Ancient Greek τρι- (tri-, three) + δάκνω (dáknō, bite). However, Beekes believes that this is a folk etymology, and this would rather be a loanword from an "Oriental" source.[1]

Proper noun[edit]

Tridacna f

  1. A taxonomic genus within the family Cardiidae – large saltwater clams.
