Proper noun

[edit]

Upney

  1. A former village in the borough of Barking and Dagenham, Greater London, England (OS grid ref TQ4584).

Usage notes

[edit]

The village lost its identity when it was swallowed up by the town of Barking. The name survives in the name of the Underground station (opened in 1932), and Upney Lane, where the station is located.
