Whtevi[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From Old Whtevi fei, from an unknown source, possibly from an Anatolian language (compare Hittite teri), via *trei > *þrei > *frei; alternatively, from Awen *feir < *ʍeir < *weir, from Proto-Lyndian *Vir (“three”). Cognates include Modern Basque (deprecated template usage) hiru, (deprecated template usage) hirur, from Proto-Vasconic *(h)irur̄, from *(h)ir (“three”) + *-(u)r̄ (“plural or collective”). The Proto-Vasconic suffix was likely employed to disambiguate the numeral from a homophone.
