Ship prefixes[edit]
"Ship prefixes" should be Translingual Symbols, not English Nouns, I suppose? Equinox ◑ 04:20, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- No, I don't think they are, at least, not always, since in different languages, they use different forms, for Navy ships. For instance, the Dutch ship prefix in English is HNLMS, but in Dutch, it is Hr.Ms. and Zr.Ms.. And in many countries, the original language form is HMS, but in English, it frequently is changed to include the country demonym, such as HSwMS for Swedish HMS. Or the English translation of the original language form is HMS, but the original language spells it differently, where we end up with the English form using HMS, or a variant with the country demonym, and not the original language form. -- 64.229.88.43 04:25, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- Canada, specifically, has two different sets of ship prefixes in use, one for French (ie. NCSM), and one for English (ie. HMCS), so those are clearly not translingual. -- 64.229.88.43 04:38, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
