Etymologies

[edit]

Hi. It's not necessary to add repetitive explanations when it's really obvious from the parts: "ice disk" is enough, without "being a disk made from ice". Equinox 14:31, 18 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Lemma

[edit]

I've told you before NOT to add the lemma entry under "also" —This unsigned comment was added by Robbie SWE (talkcontribs) at 11:31, 27 May 2019.

Where did you tell me? When did you tell me? This talk page has no entry for that. If you told me, it should be evident here somewhere. Telling me requires placing a user talk page entry saying so. If you don't bother to do so, how the hell am I supposed to see such a message hidden in some message board somewhere? Indeed, if I didn't access Wiktionary today, I wouldn't have even seen this message, since you didn't bother to tell me about this one either. -- 70.51.201.106 05:58, 28 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Apologies for not writing it here – I gave you advice in the edit summaries of your contributions that I had to fix. You should follow up your contributions, cause admins give direct friendly advice, believe it or not. --Robbie SWE (talk) 07:58, 28 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
It should be SOP to leave advice on user talk pages, since people will actually see it. The change in the also template isn't visible from the rendered view (the template auto-hides that page link option), so wouldn't be apparent from inspecting a page for visible changes at a glance. I assume this is showing up in an invisible cleanup category, since no visible error message is shown on the page. And I did not notice one in preview mode. I suspect that many editors will never see followup edit summaries for edits following their edits, and they would be easily missed. -- 70.51.201.106 08:27, 28 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Attention! don't add the lemma entry under the format "also"

I've found your edit summary comment. Can you explain the error that adding such an entry causes? -- 70.51.201.106 08:27, 28 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Taking into consideration that you didn't respond to Equinox's comment from January, I figured you weren't the talkative type (most anons aren't). Technically speaking, no visible errors occur. But if the template is altered in the near future, it could cause implementation problems. If we can avoid mistakes today so we don't have to deal with them tomorrow, we should definitely do that. --Robbie SWE (talk) 19:14, 28 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Equinox's comment doesn't appear to need a reply.
IMHO templates should be coded with (some) input validation (such as, in this case, parsing PAGENAME==var and stripping it). Other templates here already do such things. (generate error messages, validates language codes...) -- 70.51.201.106 10:48, 29 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Splatology

[edit]

@SemperBlotto Why am I being blocked for a subject that is being investigated in universities? [1] It's being research at the University of Florida [2] Has been covered in print magazines since atleast 1997 [3][4]. It's obviously a not nonsense word since it was coverd by the Wall Street Journal [5] for winning the Ig Nobel. It's not just the University of Florida that uses the term either [6][7][8][9]

LT

[edit]

@SemperBlotto Why did you erase "LT" for "light truck" ? I've never seen LT as a noun and only used as an adjective. [10] such as with [11][12][13][14] -- 70.51.201.106 16:21, 16 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
