Hello Brim,

Welcome to Wiktionary and thanks for your contributions so far.

I see you've added a couple of list pages (types of adjectives, list of English contractions, and so on). These are useful but some changes need to be made to them.

First, Wiktionary pages define their title, so a page titled "adjective" gives the definition of "adjective", and similarly, a page titled "types of adjective" would define the phrase "types of adjective", which isn't what you want. So pages that are just lists of words go in their own namespace, usually the Wiktionary or Wiktionary_Appendix namespace, which show that they are lists rather than definitions. So these pages would be better placed at "Wiktionary:Types of adjective", etc. I will move them for you.

Second, some of the pages you have set up already exist or are in the process of being created by means of the Category namespace. By adding [[Category:English_contractions]] to the pages for "isn't", "he's", etc, these words get added to a page that contains a list of English contractions. So a category would probably be the more appropriate approach here, and will mean that you aren't duplicating work already done by someone else.

I've moved "List of English contractions" to a category. The list will be automatically updated by adding [[Category:English_contractions]] to any page that defines a contraction. For example, see isn't - follow the link from that page to see the list of contractions. — Paul G 11:48, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Paul, thanks for your useful suggestions regarding the proper way to place lists in the Wiktionary namespace and the use of categories. I agree that listing the contractions as members of a category is the most useful way to link them together. However, I think that the definition for contraction should display a link to that category page, and I was wondering the best way to do that. Adding a link [[Category:English_contractions]] to the bottom of the contraction page is a bit of a perversion, since it would then list the word "contraction" on the list of contractions. I accomplished adding the link to the category page by using an external link [http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:English_contractions]. This seems to work, but I was wondering if there's another way to accomplish this, since I'd like to avoid using external links when it's truly a Wiki link. Thanks. —Brim 00:19, 18 Sep 2004 (UTC)
