Welcome
[edit]Welcome!
Hello, and welcome to Wiktionary. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- Wiktionary Tutorial
- Community Portal
- Entry layout explained
- How to edit a page
- How to start a page
- Wiktionary Sandbox (a safe place for testing syntax)
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk (discussion) and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~, which automatically produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the beer parlour or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --Dvortygirl 16:17, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the welcome. :) Wmahan 23:20, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
- You're quite welcome, in both senses. Those are some neat words you've got there. I look forward to watching your to-do list turn blue. (Mine's on paper and I tend to add terms far faster than I can seem to complete them.) Should you ever want audio, please mention it at WT:APR and just maybe drop a note on my user page, since I don't always pay close attention to the request list.
- Incidentally, I got started doing audio because I heard one of User:GerardM's audio files in Dutch. I realized at that instant that I had never heard Dutch, and I would certainly never have any clue how to pronounce it if I didn't hear it. English being the crazy, non-phonetic language it is--well, here I am.
- Please join us sometime in IRC, if you are so inclined. We always welcome company. --Dvortygirl 04:43, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, my to-do list is growing a lot faster than I can cross off entries. It wasn't necessarily intended to be interesting; it seems Wiktionary has many unusual words already, but lacks some of the more mundane ones. Anyway, I'll be sure to let you know if I need anything, and maybe I'll drop by IRC as time allows. Thanks again. Wmahan 04:58, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Wmahan. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Wmahan~enwiktionary that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
