Pronunciation[edit]

Taiwan's 國語一字多音審訂表 and mainland China's 普通话异读词审音表 give official standard pronunciations for Chinese characters in Mandarin Chinese. Where these standards diverge or depart from actual usage, a note of the divergence should be made at Module:zh/data/cmn-tag.

Orthography of Pronunciation Transcription Systems[edit]

There are many systems for the transcription of Mandarin Chinese into non-Chinese character written systems. These systems include: Hanyu Pinyin, Bopomofo, Wade-Giles Romanization, Xiao'erjing, etc.

Hanyu Pinyin[edit]

Mainland China's 汉语拼音方案, which created Hanyu Pinyin, was officially promulgated 1958. Since that time, many documents have been published governing the proper usage of Hanyu Pinyin. 汉语拼音正词法基本规则 (2012) gives many of the important rules for current standard Pinyin orthography.
