Lao transliteration[edit]

Is there a certain transliteration system we use around here? I've seen several, and it would be good to specify what Wiktionary prefers. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 03:22, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I could answer this question. On some translations I use Sealang Lao dictionary's method, which is close to IPA. Alternatively I use Lao wiktionary's method, which actually lacks tone marks. It's far from perfect but better no transliteration at all, IMHO, especially considering the complexity of the script. I don't see much activity on Lao entries/translations otherwise. --Anatoli (обсудить) 03:53, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Check with User:Widsith and User:Alifshinobi as well. Eventually the transliteration should be standardised but it's hard. Like Thai or Khmer there are several ways to transliterate and nothing is definite. --Anatoli (обсудить) 03:55, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Once I get back from Thailand and Laos I will embark on a campaign to standardise transliteration (I'm just learning the scripts now). --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 04:07, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That would be good, good luck! --Anatoli (обсудить) 05:26, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
