Etymology[edit]
First attested as zuoechdyc in 1319. Compound of the toponym Zwaag, Middle Dutch dyc (“levee”) and oost (“east”). Named after a nearby levee. The element oost was added to distinguish the settlement from Zwaagdijk-West.
