Inherited from Ottoman Turkish آفرین (āferīn, “well done”), from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (āferīn, “well done”), from Persian آفرین (âfarin, “bravo”).

- This term is usually used by the senior such as when talking to children. If it is said to an older addressee by a younger person, it is considered rude and insulting.
