Etymology

First attested in the 16th century. From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language code; the value "ML." is not valid. See WT:LOL. afforēstō, from ad (towards) + forēsta (forest)

Usage notes

"Afforest" once connoted bringing woodland under forest law in order to provide hunting grounds. However today the verb is more likely to connote commercial exploitation.
