Etymology[edit]
Coined by Austrian zoologist Helmut Otto Hofer in 1952 as German Airorhynchie, from Ancient Greek ἀείρω (aeírō, “to raise, lift”) + ῥῠ́γχος (rhúnkhos, “snout”).[1]
