Tocharian B[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From āke (edge) + -ññe. The connection here is to a land on the edge of a country; on the border; the march. Compare Old English Mierce (Kingdom of Mercia), Italian Marche (a region of Italy), and the etymology for English Ukraine, from Old East Slavic украина (ukraina, borderland).

Adjective[edit]

akeññe

  1. Agnean (exonymic designation for the Agneans, the "Tocharian A" people)
  2. pertaining to the border
