Etymology[edit]

Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₂enh₁-, the same source as onolme (creature, person), āñme (self, soul), and añiye (breath). Cognate with Latin animus.

  1. to breathe, inhale
  2. (causative) to make breathe, resuscitate
