[edit]Either borrowed from German annoncieren (“advertise”) or French annoncer (“announce”). Derived from Old French anoncier, from Latin adnūntiāre. Ultimately affix of Latin ad- (“to”) + nūntiō (“announce, declare”). First attested in 1788[1].
