Etymology

A variation of anthem; the spelling ant'em may simply reflect th-stopping, but may also reflect the historical pronunciation of anthem (the modern pronunciation of anthem with /θ/ is late and is due to the spelling).

Noun

ant'em (plural ant'ems)

  1. (music, Bahamas) A type of traditional Bahamian folk song derived from old slave music and Christian hymns.
