Romanian

Etymology

Either from târn (a large broom made from brier used to sweep streets), itself of Slavic origin, or from Latin tornāre (to turn) with suffix ad-. However, it would be an irregular phonetic evolution in this case (cf. turna, înturna).

Verb

a atârna (third-person singular present atârnă, past participle atârnat) 1st conj.

  1. to hang (from something); to dangle
