  1. (grammar) An adjective that describes an attribute of the noun phrase of which it is a part.
The word “red” in “the red balloon” is an attributive adjective.

Usage notes[edit]

As opposed to predicative adjectives, attributive adjectives are part of the noun phrase that they modify.
