Etymology[edit]
From bó (“cow”) + -ín (diminutive suffix) + Dé (“of God”): literally “God's little cow”. Compare Russian бо́жья коро́вка (bóžʹja koróvka), Polish boża krówka, Dutch lieveheersbeestje.
