This term is from the Western Oceanic substrate languages; it was considered by Mihalic to have entered Tok Pisin from Tolai, but Mosel argues that it "has certainly not been introduced from Tolai, but from a southern New Ireland language. For, apart from some marginal dialects [] Tolai [] lack[s] the phoneme /s/."[1]
